Greetings from myself to you wherever you are enjoying this current situation (speedy recovery to you or your loved ones if God forbid they are unwell). I must say Shopify giving newbies 90 day free trial is the best thing that has happened to me. Before you get excited I haven’t made that much money, it’s only 1 sale but who’s counting, maybe I should start selling a course! Just kidding. Anyways back to the point, this 90 day free trial has given me time to test different things and fail, then keep researching, testing and failing even more. If it was the usual 14 day trial I would have quit by now.
So last week I said I was going to try eBay drop-shipping, but then I realized that’s exactly what people like me would do. Try one thing for a while and then when it doesn’t work out, just quit and skip to something else. I did some soul searching and more research and found out that everybody else that is successful failed at some point in their life but they never quit. I can’t remember how many times I’ve thought about doing something else. I’m sure if you read this blog from the beginning you noticed. And those are just the ones I wrote about. I realize now that nothing comes easy, success ain’t cheap or easy and if I’m going to make it I have to not quit.
You may have noticed that my balance above has not changed and that is because, like I mentioned above, I finally made 1 sale. $8 more spent and 117 more store sessions later and here we are, a sale (chi-ching!). I feel rich already, is this what being Jeff Bezos feels like? I kid folks, it’s just the excitement taking over. So I made a sale of $34.00 and I spent $8 on Bing ads plus the product cost which was about $26 (including shipping which was $6.00) meaning my profit was $0 (34-8-26=0). Can’t say I’m surprised though, I mean if it wasn’t for the current global situation and rapid increases in shipping costs, I would have had some profit.
I did more research and digging just to find out what works better and stumbled upon a YouTuber named Kevin Zang. He has some really good content on his channel. I also came across another guy called Kalil (not sure if I spelled that correct) who has a complete Shopify tutorial for beginners. The video is about 5 hours long so buckle up if you’re interested learning a thing or two. I found some really good information on there and I think I finally found what I was looking for. I mentioned in my previous articles that I wanted to start a business that would generate me money on autopilot even when I sleep. While I chose drop-shipping for this exact reason, but in my opinion, the way most people are doing it now isn’t actually built to last for long.
Most dropshippers at the moment look for a winning product, market it on FB and milk the profits till it runs dry. Then they repeat the same process multiple times over and over again. I have nothing against this model, I’ve heard a lot of people make a lot of money very fast with this method but I just don’t vibe with it. I want to build something long term, something that can withstand the test of time, something I don’t have to worry about other people copying and stealing as is the norm in dropshipping. In order to achieve this I have to think like the big brands, the businesses that have been in existence for a long time and what they have done and/or are doing currently. I know I can’t compete with them at their level now but they also started somewhere, they also wanted to become a big brand when they started.
What I’m talking about is starting a branded drop-shipping store, an evergreen niche store to be specific. This way I won’t have to worry about my product not trending anymore or constantly looking for those hot products every time. All of these just to stay competitive and to make money. I mean think about it, you spend so much time searching for a winning product, create a store around it, create a fantastic ad, launch that ad, then an hour later someone else just takes your product slaps it on their store, rips off your video ad and runs it on FB making even more money than you. That must kill some morale in you at some point, some people get used to it, but as a creative I personally can’t.
And so that is my whole reasoning behind this new route I want to take. By the way, what’s more is that once I optimize everything at some point in the future I won’t have to worry about paying for ads or buying inventory at really expensive costs. Because traffic will now be organic and I will be ordering inventory direct from the manufacturers at very low costs. Profits will be higher, systems will be optimized and my site will just literally be spitting money every single time. Of course without action all of this is wishful thinking and ain’t nobody got time for that. So from now I am on a mission to create the best branded evergreen niche store in the whole world.
